Manchester Metrolink - Stockport Consultation: Following a report to the Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority on the 17th September, detailing the results of a feasibility study into the possibility of a Metrolink extension to Stockport, a green light was given for the transport executive (GMPTE) to carry out consultations on proposals for the scheme. Powers already exist for an extension to East Didsbury from where the extension to Stockport would add a further 4km. Councillors also agreed to release £100 000 to assist further development of the scheme.

Councillor Maureen Rowles, the Stockport representative on the Authority said "This is great news for Stockport. Metrolink has boosted other areas of Greater Manchester both socially and economically and, ......, I think the extension would in time bring similar benefits to Stockport."
