Midland Metro - Royal Opening Ceremony:
The Princess Royal carried out the official opening ceremony yesterday. Princess Anne arrived at the St. George's platform in Bilston Street Wolverhampton at 11:30 where she cut a ribbon across the tram door. The Princess then boarded the tram which took her to Wednesbury for a tour of the control centre. She then took another tram to Birmingham where the ceremony was completed with the unveiling of a plaque at Snow Hill.

The ceremony, which came some 3 months after the system opened for traffic, caused some controversy due to the tramway being closed to the public for 2 hours while the visit took place.
