Manchester submits first transport plan to Government: The £131 million plan, jointly produced by the 10 district authorities of Greater Manchester and the Passenger Transport Authority, contains as its main element a bid for £65 million for further development of the Metrolink network including the lines to Oldham & Rochdale, Ashton-under-Lyne and South Manchester and the Airport.

Other items included £10m to develop the bus corridor network; £6m for the Manchester/Salford Inner Relief Route and £17m for supporting measures to encourage a shift from the car.
