The Public Inquiry into Line B of the Dublin Light rail system started yesterday under Judge Sean O'Leary, who also conducted the inquiry into Line A. Only one of the objectors is believed to be opposed to light rail in principle while the majority were seeking only minor changes. The inquiry is expected to take about four weeks and will then go to the Minister for Public Enterprise for approval. Line B would run from Sandyford to St. Stephens Green. It would not be initially connected to Line A as the section onwards through the Central area is subject to studies on the proposed underground section. It will therefore have a separate depot located on the Sandyford Industrial Estate. If approval is given it is expected that work would start in the Autumn of 2000 and take 3 years.
