New North American vehicle orders: It is reported that Siemens Transportation Systems Inc. has won an order for 11 light rail cars, believed to be worth USD26 million, for Calgary Transit in Canada. The cars would be built at Siemens South Sacramento plant. Siemens earlier won a contract for 15 light rail cars for St. Louis and is hoping for an order from Sacramento Regional Transit which could be worth USD 135 million.

Portland, Oregon, has however chosen a Czech Republic company, Skoda Inekon, to build five trolleys for its planned streetcar line in an order worth USD 12 million. The cars which will be 66 foot long articulated vehicles will be built at Skoda's Plzen plant.
