Alstom Citadis sales reach 1000 trams : 10 years after production started, the French-based Alstom group has announced that sales of its Citadis low-floor tram have reached 1000 cars. The latest orders have come in from new customer Istanbul (30) and existing customers Algiers (7) and Lyon (3). Istanbul needs the new trams to cope with increasing traffic on its Zeytiburnu-Kabatas street tramway and delivery will start in 2009. Algiers already has 41 Citadis on order for its new tramway, but has already decided to extend the line, requiring the additional cars. Lyon already has 70 Citadis in service or on order, and needs the extra cars to cope with traffic growth.

The first Citadis trams were delivered to Montpellier in 1999, since when the type has featured on new tramways in Barcelona, Bordeaux, Dublin, Le Mans, Lyon, Madrid, Mulhouse, Nice, Orléans, Paris, Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Valenciennes
