European tramways extend : At 10.00 on 30 September tramline 16 in the Dutch city of Den Haag was extended by 4.4 km from Moerwijk to reach a common terminus with route 17 at Wateringse Veld, providing the southern suburb with a direct link to Centraal Station. Trams run from 05.48 to midnight, with a 10-minute service for most of the day.

On 21 September the city of Porto in Portugal opened a heritage tramway loop around the city centre between Carmo and Batalha; route 22 uses pre-war rolling stock that has been restored at Massarelos museum depot.

On 8 September Barcelona completed its new tramline T5 by opening the extension from Sant Joan Baptista to Gorg in Badalona, restoring tram service to this north-east suburb after 43 years.
