New trams for Toronto : The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) has approved a plan to introduce 50 low-floor trams to replace their existing fleet by 2011, with an option to add 150 more in the following years.

The TTC hopes to appoint a contractor to build the cars by April 2008. It is intended that two will arrive in 2010 for testing with the next 48 due by 2012, after that is planned for another 26 to be delivered each year until 2018.

The final design has not yet been decided. A prototype mock-up will be displayed at various point in the city from the 25th June.
