Bombardier light rail cars for Wien (Vienna): Wiener Linien has placed an order with Bombardier Transportation for 38 low-floor LRVs, a contract worth EUR 91 million. There is an option for a further 42 cars. The new LRVs will be delivered to Stadtbahn line U6 between December 2006 and June 2008 to start the replacement of the high-floor class E6 cars dating from 1979-91, and will be similar to the existing 78 low-floor Stadtbahn already used on line U6. However a new feature will be air-conditioning for passengers. The Bombardier low-floor LRV design developed for Wien was the progenitor for subsequent similar vehicles delivered to Köln (Cologne), Stockholm, Croydon, Istanbul and Minneapolis.
