More North American light rail expansion: Having made a successful start from its opening in June this year Minneapolis will see the opening of the second section over the coming weekend giving a new service from Downtown to five Bloomington-area stations including the Mall of America and the airport. The four-mile extension includes the airport's Humphrey (Charter) Terminal Station and the 28th Avenue Station just south of I-494. A 600-space park+ ride lot will open at 82nd Street & 28th Avenue South in Bloomington.

The Service will be free over the inaugural weekend with normal fares starting Monday 6 December. Travel will be free between the two airport stations.

This follows a month in which rail transit in the USA has seen success in several ballot initiatives including authorization of significant light rail transit system expansions in Denver and Phoenix.
