Adelaide to order new trams: The Government of South Australia will later this month sign an AUD 47.5 million contract with Bombardier for 9 Flexity Classic 70% low-floor articulated trams to re-equip the Glenelg tramway. Delivery will run from December 2005 to July 2006. The new trams will seat 70 passengers and will be air-conditioned. The 16 existing 1929-built H-class trams will be replaced, although 5 will be kept for heritage purposes. A further AUD 24 million is being spent to upgrade the line's tracks and power supply, and modify the stop infrastructure to provide level boarding.
