Pittsburgh Overbrook Line reopens:
After being closed in 1993 due to increasing maintenance problems and the rising costs of renovations the 5.2 mile Overbrook line re-opened on June 2nd after a four year major reconstruction costing some USD 115.8 million as part of the USD 386 million Stage II Light Rail Transit Project The Overbrook line project included the replacement of five bridges and construction of six new bridges. The original 22 stops have been replaced by 8 high platform ADA compliant stations. In addition the as part of the Stage II project, upgrades to the traction power network, Operations Control Enter, signals and communications, and the addition of 28 new light rail vehicles will together strengthen the remaining portions of the 25-mile light rail transit system.
