Freiburg extension: Despite the upheaval of losing the Combinos, the opening of the Haslach extension on route 5 took place as planned on 20th March. Both operator VAG and citizen must be grateful that GT8 cars 205-14 were not disposed of after withdrawal so were able to return to service and enable the opening to take place. Route 5 now forms a large U-shape turned on its side and runs from Rieselfeld via Haslach and Bertoldsbrunnen on new track and then past the Hauptbahnhof to Bissierstrasse.

The routes are now as follows:
  • 1 Littenweiler – Bertoldsbrunnen – Hauptbahnhof – Landwasser
  • 4 Günterstal – Lorettostraße – Bertoldsbrunnen – Hauptbahnhof – Hornusstraße
  • 5 Rieselfeld – Haslach – Bertoldsbrunnen – Bissierstraße
  • 6 Zähringen – Bertoldsbrunnen – Hauptbahnhof – Haid
As a result line 7 and bus route 12 no longer operate and bus route 10 is rerouted to leave Bertoldsbrunnen and Kaiser-Joseph-Straße tram only.
