Barcelona opening nears: The first two routes of Barcelona's Trambaix project are expected to open on 3 April. Barcelona is building two unconnected tramway systems, Trambaix and Tram Besos, both to open in 2004.

Trambaix starts from a terminus on the Diagonal at Francesc Macia (interchange with FGC suburban railway) and runs to the north-west suburb of San Joan Despi via interchange with metro lines 3 (Maria Christina) and 5 (Sant Ramon). Services will be worked by Citadis low-floor trams supplied by Alstom.

Tram Besos runs from Estacio del Nord (North Station), also on Diagonal, and will serve the eastern suburb of Sant Adria de Besos. It is planned to open in June.
