Nottingham Official opening: Line 1 has been officially launched by the Transport Secretary Alistair Darling. He, along with some 500 invited guests, travelled by tram to the Old Market Square where he laid a plaque to celebrate the opening. Mr Darling is quoted saying: "It's an excellent ride and I'm sure this tram will bring a lot of benefits to Nottingham.

"It'll take people out of their cars, it'll make it easier to get about the city and it'll be good for the city and good for the reputation of the city."

Public services start on Tuesday 9th March, with the 5.58am from Phoenix Park to Nottingham.
