Prague extension:
Today, Friday 28th, the Prague Transport Department will unveil its newest service, a six-stop, 3.5 kilometre (2.2 mile) tramline extension of route 12 from Hlubocepy to the Barrandov housing community in southwest Prague. The full service will begin on Saturday.
The new route will improve access to the area, reducing a congested 40-minute commute to just over 15 minutes. Construction began on the line in August 2001 and was funded from various sources including the European Investment Bank, which provided a loan of nearly EUR 125m.
There are plans for further public transport improvements including an extension of tram service to Malesice.
