Phoenix and Seattle pick Japanese LRVs:
Valley Metro Rail has selected Kinki Sharyo to build 36 LRVs for the
proposed Phoenix, AZ, light rail system, in a USD 115 million contract
that includes an option for a further 39 vehicles. Unsuccessful bidders
were Bombardier, CAF and Siemens. The 32-km light rail line is expected
to open in 2006. In Seattle, WA, the Sound Transit board is being
recommended to award a USD 131.8 million contract for 31 low-floor LRVs
to Kinki Sharyo for its Central Link light rail project. Delivery would
run from November 2006 to September 2008.
