New Orleans postpones opening of Canal St. line:
On 18 November the Chairman of the New Orleans Transportation Authority
announced that the planned start of revenue service, and the 6 December
grand opening of the new Canal Street tramway had been postponed,
probably until March. Although the tramway infrastructure and rolling
stock is ready for service, landscaping and pavement repairs are still
in progress, and the Chairman has said he wants 'every blade of grass,
every tree, every piece of sidewalk and street in place so the line and
its surroundings look like a polished gem' before the line is opened.
Rolling stock tests and driver training have been in progress since
early October.
