First Combinos for Spain:
Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV), the public transport authority in the Valencia region, has ordered ten Combinos for service in Valencia and Alicante. Including a spares package, the order is worth around EUR27 million. There is an option for a further 16 Combinos.
The air-conditioned Combino, with which FGV intends to modernize its rapid transit fleet in response to rising demand, will run in both Valencia and Alicante, including the line running along the seafront promenade in Alicante.
The bidirectional 31.5m long, 2.4m wide, five-section metre gauge vehicles have a seating capacity of 53 and will be fully assembled by Siemens TS in Krefeld-Uerdingen. The first vehicle will be delivered in January 2005 with the remainder by June 2005.
