Nottingham tram delayed: It has been announced that the opening of the tram system which was due to open on November 11th will be delayed by some 4 to 8 weeks. Various reasons have been put forward for the delay which include shortage of experienced sub-contractors and technical problems revealed in the testing phase requiring adjustments to the track and to poles holding electric cables. As a result of these problems the construction company Carillion has warned that its profits in the construction division could be up to GBP10m lower than expectations in the first 6 months of the year. Carrillion's involvement in the project dates back to when it was part of the Tarmac Group from which it has now demerged. It no longer intends to bid for light rail contracts.

NET Executive Director Neil Bates said: "Naturally it is disappointing that a short delay will be experienced before passenger services are fully operational, but we should all appreciate the tremendous achievement so far and look forward to the superb transport facility which will be operating in Nottingham in the very near future."
