Messina joins list of tramway cities:
The new Italian tramway system in the Sicilian city of Messina opened
for public service on 3 April. The 7.7-km line links the central station
with the city centre and harbour area. The tramway is worked by 15
five-section low-floor Cityway doubled-ended trams built by Alstom
Ferroviaria. The 22-m long and 2.4-m wide trams accommodate 30 sitting
and 100 standing passengers and have a 100% low floor 230 mm above rail
level.
