Portuguese progress:
The inauguration ceremony for the first line of the Metro do Porto took place in the presence of the Prime Minister of Portugal, Durão Barroso, on Saturday 7 December. This line to be named the Blue line runs for 12km between Trindade and Senhor de Matosinhos. When complete this line will run from Senhor de Matosinhos - Campanhã. Three other lines are planned:

This will create a system of some 70km in total. By the end of 2003, the blue line will be completed and will operate partly as the red line (line B) between Campanhã and Pedras Rubras, and the green line (line C) between Trindade and Parque da Maia.
