Siemens wins Portuguese contract:
Siemens Transportation Systems has been successful in winning the
turnkey contract for the Almada to Seixal light rail line, on the south
bank of the Tagus opposite Lisboa. Under the EUR 136 million contract
Siemens will provide 24 Combino five-section trams, the complete
signalling/operations control/traction supply systems, and the equipment
for rolling stock maintenance. The Portuguese government has awarded a
27-year construction and operation contract to Metro Transportes do Sul
(MTS). The initial 13-km section of line should open in 2005; a 20-km
