Launch of the Hounslow Tram: The vision of a high frequency modern tram system for the A4 and A312 corridors to Heathrow Airport was launched at a presentation by Hounslow Council and the West London Business Chamber of Commerce at GSK House (Headquarters of GlaxoSmithKline) alongside the Great West Road on Wednesday 27 February.

Speakers at the presentation included Professor David Begg, Chairman, Commission for Integrated Transport; Janis Kong OBE, Executive Chairman, Heathrow Airport Ltd.; Bob Dorey OBE, Chairman, Tramtrack Croydon Ltd. and Peter Handcock V.P. World Wide Real Estate, GlaxoSmithKline. Guests were welcomed by Mark Gilks, Chief Executive, London Borough of Hounslow with other speakers from the council being the Leader and Deputy Leader, Councillors John Connelly and Valery Lamey and also John Bull, Head of environmental Strategy.

The scheme, dubbed the A4 Fast Lane Hounslow tram project, comprises two possible lines one running from Heathrow along the A4 to Hammersmith and the other Heathrow via the A312 to Kingston. The need for the proposals come from the expected increase in congestion resulting from the building of Terminal 5 at Heathrow.

Following the launch there were guided tours of the 'street' area of the impressive GSK House.

Further details of the Hounslow Tram will appear on our London page.
