Göteborg (Gothenburg) opens new tramway:
10 February saw the opening of the first two sections of the future ring
tramway, when the 600-m Korsvägan Chalmers tunnel and
Sahlgrenska Linnéplatsen bridge were brought into use. The tunnel is
used by diverted routes 6 and 8. The bridge is used by route 2 which
forms an interworking with route 6 at Sahlgrenska. A new route 10 has
been introduced linking Angered and Guldheden to cover the Vasaplatsen
section of line formerly used by routes 6 and 8. All routes connect at
Brunnsparken in the city centre, but a future part of the ring will run
between Korsvägan and Ullevei to create an orbital link offering faster
suburb/suburb journey times.
