German tram orders confirmed: On 21 December Regionalbahn Kassel signed an EUR 100 million order with Alstom Salzgitter for the purchase and maintenance of 28 Citadis 500 37-m 70% low-floor tram-train cars for delivery in time to inaugurate through services from the rail network to the city centre by the end of 2005. 18 dual voltage electric cars will provide services to Hofgeismar, Warburg, Melsungen and Hessische Lichtenau. 10 diesel-electric cars will run to Wolfhagen and Schwalmstadt-Treysa. At the same time detailed engineering studies were inaugurated for the link from Hbf through city streets to Stern.

Meanwhile on 26 November the city of Frankfurt-am-Main announced its intention to replace all remaining high-floor trams by an order for 60 eight-axle double-ended 70% low-floor cars from Bombardier Bautzen for delivery in 2006/7 at a cost of EUR 108 million. The air-conditioned 30-m cars will be based on the design already produced for Kassel, Essen and Schwerin.
