Salt Lake City University line opens:
After more than 16 months of construction the USD118m University spur from the initial TRAX line was opened on Saturday 15 December almost a year ahead of schedule, in plenty of time for the Olympics.
The completion of this 2.3-mile line is a testament to the overall success of TRAX. Ridership is considerably higher than predicted and there is ongoing debate as to where the next extensions should go.
Earlier in the week, the launch of the service was observed by the renaming of 400 South to University Boulevard, a change that should help visitors find the university and designate the new TRAX route.
Interchange with the new line will take place at Gallivan station on third south although there will be one direct train from Sandy to the Stadium in the morning and one will make the return route in the evening.
