Minneapolis order: Bombardier Transportation has been awarded a contract from Minneapolis Metropolitan Council for the production and delivery of 18 low floor Light Rail Vehicles with options for 24 more vehicles. The value of the contract is USD 56 million. Should all the options be exercised, the total order would amount to USD 112.4 million. The vehicles are for the Hiawatha Corridor Light Rail system which has a length of 19.5 km (12.2 miles), 15 stations and connects three of the Twin Cities most popular destinations: downtown Minneapolis, Minneapolis/ St. Paul International Airport and the Mall of America in Bloomington.

The design of the vehicles will be developed by Bombardier Transportation LRV Centre of Expertise for America - located in Mexico - from the Stockholm version of the part low floor series, with just one step up to the high floor section. The vehicles will also be fitted with air conditioning requiring higher motor power to compensate for the increased weight,

The car shells will be produced at Bombardier Transportation’s facility based in Sahagun, Mexico while the Barre, Vermont facility will be involved in the final assembly and static testing. The order also includes ongoing maintenance.
