Bush picks Democrat to be Transportation Secretary:
Republican President-elect George Bush has nominated Democrat Norman
Mineta to be Secretary of Transportation in his new administration.
Norman Mineta is from San Jose (where he served a term as mayor) and
later served in Congress as Chairman of the House Transportation and
Public Works Committee. Most recently he served as Secretary of Commerce
in the Clinton administration. The news of Mineta's nomination has been
greeted favourably in the US transportation community, and he is
certainly familiar with all the benefits that light rail can bring
about.
