French openings: Tramway extensions opened in Strasbourg and Nantes while Lyon opened possibly its last extension to its Metro system. Friday 1 September saw the inauguration of Line B and C of the Strasbourg system adding a further 12,6 km and 24 stops to the system. The new lines link Elsau with Hoenheim-Gare (B) and Esplanade (C). The new lines cost 1,6 billion francs and bring a tram stop to within 500 metres of half the inhabitants. Strasbourg has received 27 new Eurotrams from ADtranz, 17 being the 43m extended version.

Nantes opened the extension of line 1 from Bellevue to Mitterand (5.3km) and the first section of line 3 from Commerce to Plaisance (4.2km) the following day. 39 Incentro low floor trams are being delivered from Adtranz.

Monday 4 September saw the opening of a 2.4 km extension of Line B of Lyon Métro from Jean Macé Place via Jean Jaurès and Debourg to Gerland stadium. This is expected to be the last extension of the Metro system with the first tram line due to open on the 22 December this year.
