CAF wins second US LRV order: Spanish builder CAF has been selected by Pittsburgh in a USD 151.3 million contract to supply 28 new light rail vehicle, and overhaul the existing fleet of 55 Siemens cars. There is an option for a further 15 new cars at USD2.3 million each. Electrical and control equipment will come from ADtranz (soon to be Bombardier), and the order may be assembled at their Elmira, NY, factory. The contract is due to be fulfilled in the period September 2002-August 2004. 80% of the contract costs will be reimbursed from federal funds. Last year CAF won the order for 40 low-floor trams for Sacramento.
