ADtranz was wrestling with the problem of rationalising a multiplicity
of low-floor tram designs (Eurotram, Variotram, GTN, Cobra, Incentro)
while Bombardier has rolling stock factories in Austria, Belgium,
France, Germany and North America (where the latest success is an order
for 22 cars for the planned Minneapolis-St Paul light rail system) with
a similar variety of low-floor designs, including the new low-floor
Cityrunner, and the Vienna/Croydon/Köln/Stockholm 70% low-floor design.
Further rationalisation of designs and production capacity is expected.
