URBAN TRANSIT NEWS

Rotterdam chooses Citadis: Following the failure of the GVBA/RET join committee to agree a common design for new trams for Amsterdam and Rotterdam (Amsterdam chose the Siemens Combino), on 7 July the Rotterdam transport undertaking RET ordered 60 low-floor Citadis trams from Alstom. Total value of the order is NLG 180 million. The version for Rotterdam will have a length of 30 metres, with a width of 2.40 metres, and a capacity of 190 passengers. The first new tram will be delivered in July 2002. The external front-end design has still to be chosen, but is expected to be distinctive for Rotterdam.
