URBAN TRANSIT NEWS

Transdev buy into Nottingham: The French transport firm Transdev is reported to have bought an 18.5% stake in Nottingham City Transport (NCT) for GBP3.8 million. In addition the two firms have formed a joint venture company to operate Nottingham Express Transit (NET). NCT will use the proceeds of the sale, plus money from its reserves, to invest GBP5.2m in NET. These developments mean that bus services will be revised to complement the tram services and act as feeders with a common ticket.

At the same time it has been announced that it is intended to speed up the implementation of further routes with consultants being employed to consider feasibility. Possible routes are to Clifton via The Meadows and Wilford footbridge; to West Bridgford via Trent Bridge to Gamston and either Eastwood, Beeston or Gedling. It is hoped that construction of the next line would commence upon completion of line 1.
