Siemens announce North American orders: On 10 April Siemens announced new orders for light rail vehicles from North American systems worth ECU 160 million. The Canadian city of Calgary is taking 21 SD160 cars in 2003/4 to bring their fleet to 117 Siemens cars. The SD160 is a development of the SD100 recently delivered to San Diego, featuring IGBT control and a maximum speed of 90 km/h. 5 SD16o will also be delivered to the new US system at SAlt Lake City in time to handle the traffic expected from the Winter Olympics in 2002. They will bring the Salt Lake City fleet to 28 LRVs. Denver, USA, has ordered six more SD100 cars to handle increasing traffic attracted to its light rail system. All the new cars will be built in the Siemens factories at Carson and Sacramento in California.
