Stockholm light rail opens:
Stockholm’s new orbital light rail line, route 22 from Gullmarsplan to
Liljeholmen, opened on 8 January after a five-month delay, linking two
major bus and metro interchanges south and south-west of the city. The
line is operated on behalf of SL by the Tunnelbana subsidiary of the
French CGEA (Vivendi) group. Rolling stock was built by Bombardier to a
similar design to recent LRVs for Köln (Cologne) and Croydon. The
remainder of the 10-km line, from Liljeholmen to Alvik, is expected to
open in August.
