Köln (Cologne) shuns Siemens: Following the confidence-shattering accident involving the prototype Siemens CitySprinter LRV, the KVB has decided to have nothing further to do with the design, and the second car stands idle at the factory.

Confirming this position, the undertaking has announced an order for 53 LRVs to be delivered by Bombardier from June 2001, with an option for a further 93. The first batch will complete the replacement of the city's first-generation articulated cars. The second batch will be used to replace the Stadtbahn-B cars from the 1970s/80s.
